Dress Up Text
Ever look at your text and think...Ughh! Don't we all. This page is going to take you through the basics of creative writing. Writing interesting text takes time and practice. It will not happen overnight, but it will happen, if you stick with it. So, what do you need to do?
Creative Writing Tips
- Start with plain, boring facts.Just concentrate on writing down your thoughts and ideas.
- Organize your information. Make certain your information flows from one topic to another.
- Use examples and/or creative illustrations to clarify your information. "The heat hung about us like a shroud, weighing down everything" is more descriptive than "One hot day".
- Rewrite your information in a natural, conversational tone. Sometimes it helps to pretend that you are talking to a friend.
- Proofread for mistakes. In fact, have someone else proof your work for you. Oftentimes, we are too close to the information. Things make sense to us because we know the information, whereas what we have written may not make sense to others.
Practice Session
- Open a Word document, save the following as "summer" in your web page folder.
- Use 3-4 sentences to describe your favorite summertime activity.
- You cannot mention the activity by name
- Have someone else proof your work
